Spring Class Schedule 2017


We are starting a new series of classes for beginners, intermediate, and advancing players

    1. Introduction to Bridge (I and II)
    2. Declarer Play Basics: (Review and practice basic play of the hand concepts) ALL NEW HANDS
    3. Polishing the Basics (II): This play and learn course will focus on various topics in bidding
    4. Deadly Defense: Making the Most of Your High Cards (Introduction to Defense Part 1)
    5. Introduction to Thinking Bridge (cont): ALL NEW Hands
    6. Introduction to Two Over One:
1. Introduction to Bridge (I of II): This introductory course teaches the fundamentals of the game. If you have never played this game, or you have not played in a very long time, or if you would like to start over, from the beginning then this course is for you (part II starts immediately after completion of part I).

Morning Class: Starts Monday July 17th If you would like to be added to our beginning bridge class roster. Please contact me at dave@sandiegobridgeacademy.com
    • Meets every Mondays from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm for six weeks
    • Mondays students have a regular class with teacher, lecture, and play emphasis on bidding
    • Students are encouraged to meet on Wednesdays to get a separate lesson on strategy and play without the bidding, by playing a game called mini-bridge, with prepared hands. Minimal guidance from instructor. Students are there to play and learn.
    • Cost is $125 + $25 for the text book

Evening Class: Starts Wednesday July 19th. It will meet once a week on Wednesdays from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm.
   • Wednesday students have a regular class with teacher, lecture, and play emphasis on bidding
    • Students are encouraged to meet on Tuesdays to get a separate lesson on strategy and play without the bidding, by playing a game called mini-bridge, with prepared hands. Minimal guidance from instructor. Students are there to play and learn.
    • Cost is $125 + $25 for the text book

2. Declarer Play Basics, (Review and practice basic play of the hand concepts) ALL NEW HANDS This class is for anyone striuggling with understanding the basics to good declarer play. It is also a good follow up class for anyone who has completed a beginning bridge class. More....

  Class starts Monday May 22nd
    • Meets every Monday from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm for six weeks
    • Cost is $125
    • This basic beginner/intermediate reviews all the basics of good declarer play technique including promotion, finesse, long suit establishment, ruffing in the short hand, extra winners, hold-up plays, and danger hand concepts.     • Students will also get lots of bidding review and practice
    • Level is Beginner/Intermediate

3. Polishing the Basics (II): This play and learn course will focus on various topics in bidding This six-week Play and Learn course will continue to cover some of the basics required for good defense.

  Class starts Wednesday, May 24th at 1:00 pm
    • Meets every Wednesday for six weeks from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
    • Cost is $125
    • Topics covered will include:
           • Week 1: Don't Rebid a Five Card Suit with a Reasonable Alternative
           • Week 2: The Only Forcing Bid Responder Can Make
           • Week 3: Notrump and Stoppers
           • Week 4: Notrump and Distribution
           • Week 5: The Describer and the Decider
           • Week 6: Closeout Bids
    • Level is Beginner/Intermediate

4. Deadly Defense: Making the Most of Your High Cards (Introduction to Defense Part 1) This six-week Play and Learn course will cover some of the basics required for good defense

  Class starts Tuesday May 2nd at 10:00 am
    Meets every Tuesday for six weeks from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
    Cost is $125
    Topics covered will include:
           Leading against Notrump Contracts
           Leading Against Suit Contracts
           Second Hand Low
           Second Hand Low, Except!
           Third Hand High
           Review
    • Level is Intermediate

5. Introduction to Thinking Bridge (cont): ALL NEW Hands This six week course is ALL PLAY. Discuss and improve your bidding as auctions progress. Analyze your play and your defenses afterwards. Each hand has something to be learned from bidding, play, and defense. Topics tend to be variable with minimal attention paid to centralized themes. The only theme of the course is what you should be thinking and why. Each hand will challenge studenmts. Improve your bridge by playuing hands in a supervised setting, amstering many of the concepts needed for players who want to improve their skill at the bridge table. Special attention paid to planning of the hand.

  Class starts Tuesday, May 23rd at 1:00 pm
    • Meets every Tuesday for six weeks from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
    • Cost is $125
    • Topics are random and varied, emphasis on thinking, and making a plan as declarer
    • Level is Intermediate/Advanced
    • Teacher: David Walters
.2 "gfd.21/p> 6. Introduction to Two Over One: This six week course will teach students the basics of the Two over One bidding system. Topics covered will include, Two over One is Game Force, one notrump forcing, distinguishing between three card limit raises and four card limit raises, and drury.

  Class starts Monday, May 15th at 9:00 am
    • Meets every Monday for six weeks from 9:00 am - 11:00 am
    • Cost is $125
    • Level is Intermediate/Advanced
