Winter Class Schedule 2018


We are starting a new series of classes for beginners, intermediate, and advancing players

    1. Introduction to Bridge (I and II) $125/six-week session
    2. Planning to Win: Introduction to Declarer Play (I) Part 1 of 2: $150 for six week session or $30/individual class
    3. Polishing the Basics (I) Part 1 of 2: $150 for six week session or $30/individual class
    4. Defense: The Big Picture: Recognizing Dummy Types and Defend Accordingly
    5. Fourth Suit Game Forcing (2 Week Class) $50. Tuesday May 15th and 22nd at 9:45 am - 11:45 am

1. Introduction to Bridge (I and II):

This introductory course teaches the fundamentals of the game. If you have never played this game, or you have not played in a very long time, or if you would like to start over, from the beginning then this course is for you (Part II starts immediately after completion of Part I).

Each course meets for six weeks.

Each class meets twice each week.

Students will learn how to choose the best contract

Students will also get lots of practice playing hands trying to make their chosen contract.

Cost for each six-week (twelve-session) course is $125.

Textbook: "Beginning Bridge by Barbara Seagram and Linda Lee $25.

Introduction to Bridge I:   Starts with the basics, and includes, what to open, what to respond, and the second round of bidding.


Morning Class starts Monday April 30th

Meets Mondays from 9:30 am - 11:30 am and Wednesdays from 1:15 pm - 3:15 pm

Introduction to Bridge II:   Continues with the Basics, Competitive Bidding, and Introduces Conventional Bids, Stayman, Jacoby Transfers, Strong 2C Opening Bid, Weak Two's and Preempts.

Planning to Win: (Introduction to Play of the Hand Part I)
    This is a good follow up class for anyone who has completed a beginning bridge class,
    or for anyone who wishes to work on developing basic declarer play skills
    This six-week "Play and Learn Course" will introduce basic declarer play concepts
    Class starts Tuesday May 8th
    Class meets every Tuesday from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm for six weeks
    Cost is $150 or $30/session
    This course introduces basic declarer play techniques
    Students will also get lots of bidding review and practice
           Week 1: Counting Winners and Entries in NT
           Week 2: Counting Losers and Drawing Trump
           Week 3: Promotion in Suits and NT
           Week 4: Using Length in Suits and NT
           Week 5: The Finesse
           Week 6: Practice and Review
    Level is Beginner/Intermediate

Polishing the Basics: (Part I of II) Mastering Basic Bidding Concepts
    This six week Play and Learn will focus on mastering basic bidding concepts
    Class starts Tuesday May 22nd
    Meets every Tuesday for six weeks from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
    Cost is $150 or $30/session
    Topics covered will include:
           Week 1: Categorize the strength of your hand
           Week 2: Which Suit do I Bid First: Describing Distributional Hands
           Week 3: Describing the Strength of Balanced Hands
           Week 4: Bidding with Minimum Hands and stopping in a reasonable spot
           Week 5: Forcing and non-forcing bids by responder
           Week 6: Practice
    Level is Beginner/Intermediate

4. Defense the Big Picture: Recognizing Dummy Types and Defending Accordingly
    Class starts Monday May 21st at 1:00 pm
    Meets every Monday for six weeks from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
    Cost is $150 for all six weeks or $30/session
    Topics covered will include:
          Recognizing Dummy Types
           Active Defense: When to Attack
           Passive Defense: Do no harm: When to do the exact opposite of attacking
           Trump Attack: When is it right to lead trumps?
    Level is Intermediate/Advanced

5. Convention Madness: Fourth Suit Game Forcing: (2 Week Class) $50
    Class meets Tuesday May 15th and 22nd from 9:45 am - 11:45 am
    Cost is $50 for both sessions or $25/lesson
